Interactive Community Notification System
Most residents in the Borough of Hawthorne know they can call 9-1-1 to get the Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Service assistance. What they may not know is the police can now use the Reverse 911 Community Notification System to notify residents and businesses of an actual or potential emergency.
The Hawthorne Police Department uses the Passaic County Sheriff's Reverse 911 Community Notification System allows the police department for rapid notification to specific geographical areas by telephone. What may have taken hours, consuming a large portion of staffing to accomplish, can be done in a fraction of time.
Reverse 911 increases the level of community safety and awareness, in addition to the effectiveness of public safety agencies, by involving citizens first-hand in the safety process.
Residents who have a listed telephone number are already in the database. However, members of the community who have an "unlisted telephone number" or would like to an alternate phone number registered in the Sheriff's telephone database must call the Sheriff's Department at 973-389-5958 in order to be registered.
