BOROUGH CLERK

The Borough Clerk serves as the Clerk of the Council to keep its minutes and records of proceedings.  The Clerk's office also compiles its ordinances and resolutions.  In addition, the Clerk provides secretarial and clerical services for Council Members in the discharge of their official duties.

The Clerk's office also serves as Secretary to the Municipal Corporation, Administrative Official and Election Official.

Elections play an important part in the life of the Hawthorne community. The Municipal Clerk serves as the Election Official.  Three elections are held each year - the Primary Election is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in June, the General Election is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November and the School Board Election is always held on the third Tuesday in April.

*NOTE:  SCHOOL'S WILL BE OPEN FOR THE PRIMARY
Voting at Lincoln Middle School
will
take place in the MEDIA CENTER.
 


Voter Registration Deadlines
The last day to register for election dates are as follows
:

March 26, 2013    --  School Board Election
May 14, 2013       --  Primary Election
October 15, 2013  --  General Election

The Borough Clerk's office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on these dates to accommodate deadlines. 


Landlord Registration Form-Enacted by the State of New Jersey,N.J.S.A. 46:8-28, all landlords of a one or two family dwelling shall at the time of the creation of the first tenancy in any newly constructed or reconstructed building, file with the Borough Clerk of the municipality, in which the residential property is located, a certificate of registration.

In accordance with the Hotel and Multiple Dwelling Law(3 families or more), C.55:13A-3, landlords must file with the Bureau of Housing Inspection in the Department of Community Affairs, P.O. Box 803, Trenton, NJ 08625.

Garage Sales.  A resident may have up to two garage sales in a calendar year, with each sale being no more than three consecutive days.  The fee is $5 for the first sale, and $10 for the second. Application is made to the Clerk's office.
