Any resident interested in serving as a member of any of the above appointive bodies may complete a Volunteer Application Form and submit it to the Office of the Mayor.
All members of these boards and commissions, as well as other local government officials, must comply with the State of New Jersey's Local Government Ethics Law. One of the requirements of this law is that each official must complete and submit an annual financial disclosure form which is kept on file by both the Municipal Clerk and the New Jersey Local Finance Board. The Local Finance Board is responsible for hearing any ethics complaints against local officials.
Members of the Board of Education are elected by the voters in the annual school election in April.
The Board of Fire Commissioners which governs the Hawthorne Fire Department is comprised of the Deputy Fire Chief from each of the five fire companies and the Fire Chief.
