Lightning Detection & Warning

The Borough has installed a lightning detection system to warn users of municipal recreation facilities
that lightning may be imminent.  The warning signals are at the Wag complex and by the municipal
pool.  The alarm at the pool will be audible as well at the tennis courts, Franklin Field and the new
Veteran's Field soccer facility at the Kohler site.

When lightning is imminent, ONE LONG BLAST will sound, which means to take cover immediately.
This signal may be repeated.  When the danger is reduced, the signal will be three short blasts

To TAKE COVER, seek shelter in any building or a vehicle.  If one of these is not available, seek a
low-lying area or dense woods.  AVOID open areas, water, tall trees, metal fences, overhead wires
and power lines, elevated ground, mowers, cellular phones and radios.

Use common sense.  Even if the "lightning imminent" signal has not sounded, or the "reduced danger"
signal has, seek shelter if there are other signs of danger- visible lightning, audible thunder, incoming
storm clouds.  Neither the signal nor the system is intended to guarantee that conditions are safe.

Follow the direction of pool staff or league & team officials when participating in supervised activities.  If you are a coach or participant in a league, check in advance with league officials on league procedures for resuming games after a lightning warning.
